Jasper Independent School District

Jasper Independent School District is a public school district based in Jasper, Texas. Jasper ISD serves the city of Jasper.

History

In 1948 the district absorbed an area formerly in the Vernon County Line Common School District which had only white students.^[1]

In 2009, the school district was rated "recognized" by the Texas Education Agency.^[2]

Effective the 2022–2023 school year the district will hold classes four days per week instead of five.^[3]

In March 2022, the school district approved a new academic calendar featuring a four-day school week. However, Jasper ISD has since decided to return to a traditional five-day week, starting in the 2024-2025 school year, as outlined in their agenda.^[4]

Student Ratio

The student population in the Jasper Independent School District consists of 36% White, 40.1% Black, 0.4% Asian or Asian/Pacific Islander, 18.8% Hispanic/Latino, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0% Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander.^[5] Additionally, 4.5% of students identify as being of two or more races, with no students reporting as unspecified in terms of race or ethnicity.

Gender distribution in the district is nearly balanced, with 49% female and 51% male students. Moreover, 56.9% of the student body qualifies for the federal free and reduced-price meal program, and 10.1% are English language learners.
