Presidency University, Bangladesh (Bengali: প্রেসিডেন্সী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, বাংলাদেশ) is a private research university with a campus in Gulshan, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Presidency University has Four schools containing Six departments with a strong emphasis on research-based education. The Gulshan campus was established in 2003. More than 3000 students are currently enrolled here. The number of faculty members teaching at the university is nearly 300.[1] [2] [3]

History

The Presidency University Foundation, a dynamic group of 30 teachers, leaders of business and industry, and retired government officers, came together and petitioned the government for a permit to establish and operate Presidency University. On July 21, 2003, the Ministry of Education (MoE) of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), in keeping with the Private University Act 1992, authorized the establishment and operation of Presidency University. Thereafter, Presidency University opened its door to students in September of 2003.

The Principal Sponsor of Presidency University is Mr. Muslehuddin Ahmad, a former Secretary and Ambassador of Bangladesh. Indeed it is he who first came out with the proposal to establish a private university in Bangladesh in 1988. On the basis of an article, The Private University in Bangladesh, an initial proposal, by Junaid K. Ahmad, which was published first on February 2, 1988 in Bidesh Bangla, a magazine published in California, USA. With his direct experience of over a decade to establish and run a private university, Mr. Muslehuddin Ahmad was aware of the opportunities and the difficulties. It was his mission to set up another university that can really be a center of Excellence and be the Model for others and hence the justification for another private university - Presidency University.

Campus

The university's campus is located in Gulshan-2 Residential Area in Dhaka under the Gulshan Thana. It is one of the growing largest private universities in Bangladesh in terms of quality of education.

Presidency University Journal is a publication of the Presidency University in Bangladesh. This printed journal publishes original, empirical and innovative materials in functional and support areas of multidisciplinary subjects such as information and communication technology, civil engineering, electrical and telecommunication engineering, architecture, business, economics, literature, education and law, etc. It is primarily devoted to the extension and further development and dissemination of knowledge in the field of education for the benefit of academics as well as practicing enterprise managers as well as entrepreneurs. The journal has obtained International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) 2224–7610. PUJ is a blind refereed journal.
