Penguin Books ialah sebuah rumah penerbitan British. Ia ditubuhkan pada tahun 1935 oleh Sir Allen Lane, saudara-saudaranya Richard dan John,[2] sebagai barisan penerbit The Bodley Head, hanya menjadi sebuah syarikat berasingan pada tahun berikutnya.[3] Penguin merevolusikan penerbitan pada tahun 1930-an melalui paperbacks yang murah, dijual melalui Woolworths dan kedai jalan tinggi yang lain untuk enam pekan, membawa fiksyen kertas yang berkualiti tinggi dan bukan fiksyen ke pasaran massa.[4] Kejayaan Penguin menunjukkan bahawa penonton yang besar wujud untuk buku-buku yang serius. Penguin juga mempunyai kesan yang besar terhadap perdebatan awam di Britain, melalui buku-buku mengenai budaya, politik, seni, dan sains British.[5]

Penguin Books kini menjadi jejak dari Penguin Random House, sebuah konglomerat yang baru muncul yang dibentuk pada tahun 2013 oleh penggabungan dengan penerbit Amerika Random House.[6] Dahulu, Penguin Group dimiliki sepenuhnya oleh British Pearson PLC, syarikat media global yang juga memiliki Financial Times,[7] tetapi dalam syarikat payung baru itu hanya mengekalkan pegangan minoriti sebanyak 25% daripada stoknya terhadap pemilik Random House, syarikat media Jerman Bertelsmann, yang menguasai kepentingan majoriti. Ia adalah salah satu penerbit bahasa Inggeris terbesar yang dahulunya dikenali sebagai "Enam Besar", kini "Lima Besar", bersama dengan Holtzbrinck/Macmillan, Hachette, HarperCollins, dan Simon & Schuster.[8]
