Po žanru je romantična komedija, a temelji se na istoimenom istoimenom kazališnom komadu Philipa Barryja. Protagonistica, čiji lik tumači Katherine Hepburn, je pripadnica otmjenog društva čije planove za vjenčanje remeti dolazak bivšeg muža (čiji lik tumači Cary Grant) i "žutog" novinara (čiji lik tumači Jimmy Stewart). Film je doživio ogroman komercijalan uspjeh i preporodio karijeru Katherine Hepburn nakon niza spektakularnih promašaja. Nominiran je za nekoliko Oscara, od kojih je Stewart osvojio za najboljeg glumca te Donald Ogden Stewart za najbolji adaptirani scenario. Danas se smatra jednom od najboljih komedija klasičnog Hollywooda.
Godine 1956. je poslužio kao predložak za filmski mjuzikl High Society.
