Kongres Benua Kedua

Templat:Continental Congress Kongres Benua merujuk pada sebuah konvensyen yang dihadiri oleh para perwakilan daripada Tiga Belas Koloni yang membentuk badan pentadbir Amerika Syarikat semasa Revolusi Amerika.

Kongres ini bersidang sebanyak tiga kali antara tahun 1774 sehingga 1789. Konvensyen pertama dibuat bagi membincangkan isu-isu sekatan dan Intolerable Acts' bagi menghukum Negeri Massachusetts, yang mana pada tahun 1774 membenarkan Benjamin Franklin untuk menyakinkan koloni-koloni untuk mewujudkan sebuah badan perwakilan. Kebanyakan perkara yang wujud pada hari ini datangnya daripada buku log tahunan yang dicetak oleh Kongres Benua yang dikenali sebagai "Resolusi, Akta dan Peraturan Kongres" yang mana memperincikan debat-debat dan isu-isu seharian.

Walaubagaimanapun terdapat percanggahan di antara para perwakilan sama ada untuk berpisah daripada pemerintahan Mahkota, Kongres Benua Kedua diadakan pada 2 Julai, 1776, meluluskan sebuah sebuah resolusi akuan kemerdekaan, yang mana tiada bantahan direkodkan. Pengistiharan Kemerdekaan telah dikeluarkan dua hari kemudian dengan pengistiharan sebuah negara baru: Amerika Syarikat. Ia menubuhkan satu pasukan Tentera Darat Benua, dengan diketuai oleh seorang ahlinya, George Washington dari Virginia. Ia menyebabkan tercetusnya perang dengan Great Britain, membuat perjanjian ketenteraan dengan Perancis, dan membiayai usaha-usaha perang dengan pinjaman dan wang kertas.

Kongres Benua Ketiga merupakan Kongres Konfederasi, di bawah Perkara-perkara Konfederasi.
